TŁO

Tło to warszawska pracownia architektoniczna prowadzona przez Michała Sikorskiego. Zapożyczając narzędzia projektowe z warsztatów urbanisty i architekta krajobrazu, traktujemy projektowanie przestrzeni jako złożony proces transformacji zastanej sytuacji, bardziej niż jako jednostronne wdrażanie "wizji". Niezależnie od funkcji i skali projektu, interesuje nas dodanie nowych jakości użytkowych do miejsc. Obok przestrzeni, czas jest dla nas kluczowy. Interesujemy się zarówno hedonistyczną tymczasowością, tradycyjną trwałością jak i długoterminową planistyką. Współpracujemy z różnymi instytucjami także przy przygotowaniu procesu inwestycyjnego poprzez realizacje studium wykonawczych i organizacje konkursów. Projektowana przez nas architektura czerpie swobodnie z wzorców historycznych i współczesnej kultury.

Tło is a Warsaw-based architecture and urban planning office, founded and led by Michał Sikorski. Using project tools of urbanists and landscape architects, we treat creating space as a complex process of transformation rather than a one-sided implementation of a certain “vision”. Regardless of the function and scale of the project, we are interested in adding new qualities to places. Not only space, but also the time is of essence to us. We are equally interested in hedonistic temporality, traditional durability, and long-term planning. We also contribute to early stages of project development by completing feasibility studies and organizing architectural competitions. Our architectural strategy is widely inspired by both historical references and contemporary culture.

MICHAŁ SIKORSKI

MICHAŁ SIKORSKI

Michał Sikorski is an architect and urban planner. Graduated from École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette. Between 2008 and 2017, as project leader for Belgian architect Xaveer De Geyter (XDGA), he supervised the Paris-Saclay campus masterplan and the new learning centre for Strasbourg’s University management faculty. He is co-founder of the French architecture bureau, UN1ON. Between 2017 and 2021, he was the lead architect of the Office of Innovation of the University of Warsaw, Poland. Taught and carried out research in various European architecture schools, including ETH Zürich. Currently he's teaching urban planning in Warsaw's WAPW. In 2021, he founded his own architecture office. TŁO. This is where you'll find him.

Łukasz Barej

Łukasz Barej

Łukasz is an architect and a graduate of the Technical University of Łódź. He has studied and worked in Spain, Finland, and Portugal, and holds an engineering degree in Energy Efficient Construction. Passionate about integrating nature into architecture, Łukasz explores sustainable building methods and merges traditional craftsmanship with digital fabrication. His diverse experience ranges from designing furniture to prototyping electronic devices. At TŁO, Łukasz ensures the team stays at the forefront of technological advancements.

Mikołaj Gomółka

Mikołaj Gomółka

Mikołaj Gomółka is an architect, urban planner and educator with experience in both public and private projects. Noteworthy in his academic journey is his master's thesis titled "Post-city - Strategies for Depopulating Cities: A Case Study of Bytom" that has received recognition through numerous awards. He serves as a lecturer at WAPW and has been a guest lecturer at institutions such as Technische Universität Berlin and the University of Detroit Mercy. Mikołaj's contributions to TŁO primarily revolve around his expertise in urban planning and heritage realated architectural projects.

Dominika Grabowska-Ropek

Dominika Grabowska-Ropek

Dominika is a licensed architect, urban planner, and academic lecturer at the Warsaw University of Technology, where she is also pursuing her PhD. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Cracow University of Technology, earning a diploma with RIBA accreditation. With extensive professional experience, Dominika has led teams on large-scale mixed-use projects, conducted urban analyses, and worked on heritage-listed buildings. At TŁO, she oversees project management, bringing her expertise and leadership to the team.

Jan Jabłoński

Jan Jabłoński

Jan Jabłoński is an architect, PhD candidate, and lecturer with expertise in architectural theory, adaptive reuse, and conservation. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw Technical University (WAPW) and is currently pursuing his PhD there. Jan brings versatile experience in architectural practice, ranging from designing housing estates to crafting furniture. At TŁO, Jan's work aligns with his passion for regionally-oriented and sustainable architecture, primarily focusing on the execution phase of projects.

Michalina Kubiak

Michalina Kubiak

Michalina is a junior architect and a former intern at TŁO. She recently graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, where she participated in a student exchange program at Politecnico di Bari in Italy. Michalina is particularly interested in scenography and the exploration of materiality in architecture and furniture design. At TŁO, she is primarily involved in individual residential projects, contributing her fresh perspective and creative approach.

Anna Nauwaldt

Anna Nauwaldt

Anna Nauwaldt is an architect and a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen where she studied at the Political Architecture - Critical Sustainability program and of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, where she obtained her MA degree with honours. She’s published in RZUT and co-curated an exhibition at the 2020 Tbilisi Architecture Biennial. She has experience from practices in Warsaw, Toulouse and Copenhagen and is based in Warsaw since 2023. Anna's a lead architect at TŁO contributing to the office's projects exploring new paths of sustainability.

Marta Wiśniewska

Marta Wiśniewska

Marta Wiśniewska - architect at TŁO and a former intern who returned after few years of practicing in Belgium. Graduated from WAPW in Warsaw and KU Leuven in Brussels. Drawn to urban misfits and the contradictions that make the city, always searching for spaces where unexpected interactions unfold. A recipient of the Warsaw Art Scholarship, if not at TŁO, you can find her wandering through allotment gardens, talking with people.

TŁO

Tło to warszawska pracownia architektoniczna prowadzona przez Michała Sikorskiego. Zapożyczając narzędzia projektowe z warsztatów urbanisty i architekta krajobrazu, traktujemy projektowanie przestrzeni jako złożony proces transformacji zastanej sytuacji, bardziej niż jako jednostronne wdrażanie "wizji". Niezależnie od funkcji i skali projektu, interesuje nas dodanie nowych jakości użytkowych do miejsc. Obok przestrzeni, czas jest dla nas kluczowy. Interesujemy się zarówno hedonistyczną tymczasowością, tradycyjną trwałością jak i długoterminową planistyką. Współpracujemy z różnymi instytucjami także przy przygotowaniu procesu inwestycyjnego poprzez realizacje studium wykonawczych i organizacje konkursów. Projektowana przez nas architektura czerpie swobodnie z wzorców historycznych i współczesnej kultury.

Tło is a Warsaw-based architecture and urban planning office, founded and led by Michał Sikorski. Using project tools of urbanists and landscape architects, we treat creating space as a complex process of transformation rather than a one-sided implementation of a certain “vision”. Regardless of the function and scale of the project, we are interested in adding new qualities to places. Not only space, but also the time is of essence to us. We are equally interested in hedonistic temporality, traditional durability, and long-term planning. We also contribute to early stages of project development by completing feasibility studies and organizing architectural competitions. Our architectural strategy is widely inspired by both historical references and contemporary culture.

MICHAŁ SIKORSKI

MICHAŁ SIKORSKI

Michał Sikorski is an architect and urban planner. Graduated from École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette. Between 2008 and 2017, as project leader for Belgian architect Xaveer De Geyter (XDGA), he supervised the Paris-Saclay campus masterplan and the new learning centre for Strasbourg’s University management faculty. He is co-founder of the French architecture bureau, UN1ON. Between 2017 and 2021, he was the lead architect of the Office of Innovation of the University of Warsaw, Poland. Taught and carried out research in various European architecture schools, including ETH Zürich. Currently he's teaching urban planning in Warsaw's WAPW. In 2021, he founded his own architecture office. TŁO. This is where you'll find him.

Łukasz Barej

Łukasz Barej

Łukasz is an architect and a graduate of the Technical University of Łódź. He has studied and worked in Spain, Finland, and Portugal, and holds an engineering degree in Energy Efficient Construction. Passionate about integrating nature into architecture, Łukasz explores sustainable building methods and merges traditional craftsmanship with digital fabrication. His diverse experience ranges from designing furniture to prototyping electronic devices. At TŁO, Łukasz ensures the team stays at the forefront of technological advancements.

Mikołaj Gomółka

Mikołaj Gomółka

Mikołaj Gomółka is an architect, urban planner and educator with experience in both public and private projects. Noteworthy in his academic journey is his master's thesis titled "Post-city - Strategies for Depopulating Cities: A Case Study of Bytom" that has received recognition through numerous awards. He serves as a lecturer at WAPW and has been a guest lecturer at institutions such as Technische Universität Berlin and the University of Detroit Mercy. Mikołaj's contributions to TŁO primarily revolve around his expertise in urban planning and heritage realated architectural projects.

Dominika Grabowska-Ropek

Dominika Grabowska-Ropek

Dominika is a licensed architect, urban planner, and academic lecturer at the Warsaw University of Technology, where she is also pursuing her PhD. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Cracow University of Technology, earning a diploma with RIBA accreditation. With extensive professional experience, Dominika has led teams on large-scale mixed-use projects, conducted urban analyses, and worked on heritage-listed buildings. At TŁO, she oversees project management, bringing her expertise and leadership to the team.

Jan Jabłoński

Jan Jabłoński

Jan Jabłoński is an architect, PhD candidate, and lecturer with expertise in architectural theory, adaptive reuse, and conservation. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw Technical University (WAPW) and is currently pursuing his PhD there. Jan brings versatile experience in architectural practice, ranging from designing housing estates to crafting furniture. At TŁO, Jan's work aligns with his passion for regionally-oriented and sustainable architecture, primarily focusing on the execution phase of projects.

Michalina Kubiak

Michalina Kubiak

Michalina is a junior architect and a former intern at TŁO. She recently graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, where she participated in a student exchange program at Politecnico di Bari in Italy. Michalina is particularly interested in scenography and the exploration of materiality in architecture and furniture design. At TŁO, she is primarily involved in individual residential projects, contributing her fresh perspective and creative approach.

Anna Nauwaldt

Anna Nauwaldt

Anna Nauwaldt is an architect and a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen where she studied at the Political Architecture - Critical Sustainability program and of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, where she obtained her MA degree with honours. She’s published in RZUT and co-curated an exhibition at the 2020 Tbilisi Architecture Biennial. She has experience from practices in Warsaw, Toulouse and Copenhagen and is based in Warsaw since 2023. Anna's a lead architect at TŁO contributing to the office's projects exploring new paths of sustainability.

Marta Wiśniewska

Marta Wiśniewska

Marta Wiśniewska - architect at TŁO and a former intern who returned after few years of practicing in Belgium. Graduated from WAPW in Warsaw and KU Leuven in Brussels. Drawn to urban misfits and the contradictions that make the city, always searching for spaces where unexpected interactions unfold. A recipient of the Warsaw Art Scholarship, if not at TŁO, you can find her wandering through allotment gardens, talking with people.
